So I've been in full-fledged personal-best mode these past few weeks, as I prepare to debut on the beach on July Fourth weekend.
Appearing publicly in one's bathing suit after acquiring winter pale skin and corresponding winter soft spots is always a little tough. But appearing publicly in one's bathing suit after nine months of pregnancy and then nine additional months of general inactivity due to exhaustion is even tougher. (Although I am pleased to report The Littler Black Dress is working out quite nicely.)
So it's been early morning gym cram sessions, crunches while watching "Sex and the City" reruns on TBS, and at least a valiant effort to minimize carbs. But as I assessed my body the other day, I suddenly saw it as the Princess sees it.
My Breasts
Me: Over, clearly over
Princess: Over 1 billion meals served
Thighs That Jiggle When Slapped
Me: Horrifying
Princess: Hilarious
Mushy Biceps
Me: Do some curls already
Princess: Curl them around me!
Tummy Pooch
Me: Homely
Princess: Original home sweet home
I'm not going to lie and say I love my body the way it is. I'm still going to keep up the gym sessions and try to skip the morning bagel. But a little perspective goes a long way as I await the return of the day I can fit back into my skinny jeans.
Glad to see you are back, but I am not looking forward to what lies ahead for me in the looks department. For now, I'm just plumpy and pregnant!

I think I valued my body -- curves and all -- much more after having Elias. Maybe it was a side-effect of the natural childbirth empowerment kick, but I just felt so proud of myself that the jiggly parts seemed to have a "purpose," know what I mean?
